The Annual Home Maintenance Checklist
Home maintenance goes better when it's expected. This calendar breaks the year into small, kind tasks — most take under an hour.
Spring (March–May)
Clean gutters and downspouts, check exterior caulking, inspect the roof from the ground with binoculars, service the AC, test the sump pump, and walk the foundation looking for new cracks.
Summer (June–August)
Reseal the deck if needed, check window and door weather seals, clean the dryer vent line, and touch up exterior paint where UV has faded it.
Fall (September–November)
Service the furnace, replace filters, drain outdoor faucets, clean gutters again, and put away hoses. This is the season that protects your winter.
Winter (December–February)
Watch for ice dams, check the attic for warm spots, keep an eye on humidity (30–45%), and test smoke and CO detectors.
Handwritten note
Twelve small hours across the year prevent most of the expensive surprises. Save this checklist and revisit it each season.
